Masamune in the anime very closely resembles his in-game character design, with medium-long brown hair, a black eye-patch over his right eye, and the classic helmet with its golden crescent moon. In Sengoku Basara Legend of Yukimura Sanada, he makes playable appearances both as his usual self, as well as his childhood counterpart, Bontenmaru. He was known as the "One-Eyed Dragon" (独眼竜, Dokuganryū). He was portrayed as the energetic and fearless young ruler of the Date Clan.
